Preparation for your retreat.

You have received the call from the grandmother of all the teacher plants—Ayahuasca.
Here are the things you need to know.

Before your ceremony you must prepare your vessel (body, mind and spirit).

Dieta
The recommended diet for Ayahuasca is one that is light and healthy, with minimum or zero products of animal origin. These are the dietary recommendations to follow 7-10 days prior to and following the ceremony. If you decide to begin sooner, ensure that your body is well-nourished in the days leading up to the ceremony. There is no need to feel hungry—you are encouraged to eat as much of the allowed foods as you like.

Foods to enjoy
Fresh or cooked vegetables
Fresh fruits or juices
Grains and legumes (i.e. beans, peas, oats, quinoa, brown rice, lentils, hummus)
Nuts, seeds, and nutbutters (except peanuts)
Eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt
Herbs
Fish & poultry
Larabars are a good dieta-friendly snack

Foods to avoid
Alcohol*
Pork*
Heavy meats (beef, lamb, duck, tuna)*
Fermented foods (pickles, aged cheese, kimchi, kombucha)*
Sugar and aspartame
Spicy foods or spices (red pepper, chilies)
No/low salt
Oils—olive oil and coconut oil are ok in moderation
Processed foods, junk food
Caffeine

* Pork, red meat, fermented foods, and alcohol, all contain high amounts of tyramine. Since ayahuasca is an MAO-inhibitor, it temporarily inhibits the activation of the monoamine oxidase (MAO). This is an essential enyzme to breakdown tyramine, so without it you may end up with headaches or hypertension.

Mental Preparation
Avoid dark or heavy media including violent shows or movies, pornography, and the news.

Try to avoid anything that feels distressing or overwhelming.

Prevent getting angry, doubting, or losing faith in the process or think negatively about the dieta restrictions.

Avoid drugs or mind-altering substances of any kind, especially marijuana for at least 7 days before and after the ceremony.

A note on intimacy
It is recommended to refrain from sexual activity before and after the ceremony. Sex, including masturbation, is a powerful energetic exchange that draws from a vital reservoir, which when full, facilitates the healing and transformation ayahuasca can offer.
